Apple Picking Update
April’s frost was hard on orchards across the region, and ours didn’t come through untouched. But we do have apples — enough to open the orchard and pick this fall, just not as many as a normal year.
We’re keeping apple picking open for as long as the fruit lasts, and limiting how many pickers head out each day so there’s still something on the trees when you get there. Weekends go first, so buy your wristband ahead if you can.

Welcome to Johnson’s Locust Hall Farm, where apple picking in NJ is more than a seasonal outing — it’s a tradition families return to year after year. Our family-owned farm sits on 325 historic acres in Jobstown, and every fall the orchard opens for pick-your-own apples alongside the rest of the fall harvest season.
Whether you’re planning a family day, a fall date, or searching for apple picking near you, the orchard is a chance to spend a few hours outdoors and pull fresh apples straight from the trees. A hayride takes you out to the fields, where you can enjoy the crop picking activities.
What a Day in the Orchard Looks Like
A visit to the orchard is more than simply picking apples — you’ll take a hayride to the fields, spend time picking your own apples, and have the opportunity to enjoy other seasonal activities during your time at the farm.
Make the most of your visit with:
- Pick-your-own apples — Walk the rows and fill your bag at your own pace.
- A hayride to the fields — Hayrides are part of the experience of reaching the picking fields.
- A 5-acre family corn maze — Explore the maze during your fall visit.
- Animal Farm and Play Patch — Meet the farm animals and let the kids enjoy some time to play.
- Farm Market treats — Stop in for fresh-baked goods, apple cider, and our famous cider donuts.
Seasonal Apple Picking Schedule
Our apple-picking season runs from early September through late October. Because of this spring’s frosts, apple supply is limited, and we expect to sell out before the typical season ends — plan to come early in the season if apples are your reason for visiting. Hours and last hayride

You don’t need to pick a time slot when you reserve — your wristband is good for arrival any time in that window. The end of the arrival window is the last hayride out to the fields. Miss it, and you can’t reach the orchard, even though the fields stay open another hour. Give yourself at least 1¼ hours for the full hayride route — apple orchard, sunflower trail, flower field, pumpkin patch, and the corn maze — plus extra time if the kids are going to want to visit the Animal Farm and Play Patch on the way back. Availability shifts with weather, time, and crop conditions, so check our orchard update above before you drive out.

Apple availability changes throughout the season, so the varieties available in September may differ from those ready for picking in October. For 2026, our estimated apple-picking schedule includes the following varieties:

Apple availability is subject to weather, crop conditions, and ripeness. The dates above are estimates and may change throughout the season. We recommend calling us before visiting to pick apples to confirm availability
Apple Picking Prices at Johnson’s Locust Hall Farm
Our pick-your-own apple pricing is based on the size of the bag you choose. Bags are provided, and outside containers are not permitted.
Current apple-picking prices:
- 1/4 Peck Bag: $8
- 1/2 Peck Bag (when available): $15

Want to enjoy more than just apple picking? Our 2026 Activity Wristband provides access to several of the farm’s seasonal activities, making it easy to turn your apple-picking trip into a full day on the farm.

Tickets can be purchased online or in person.
If you only want to visit the animals and Play Patch, an Animal Farm & Play Patch Only ticket is available at the Farm for $4.75 per person.

You can also explore other seasonal experiences, including pumpkin picking and our sunflower fields, when available.
After exploring the farm, stop by our Farm Market for fresh-baked goods, including our famous apple cider donuts, hot and cold drinks, ice cream, and specialty beverages. On weekends, the Farm House Grill is open with a selection of hot sandwiches.
The Farm Market is also home to Tomasello Winery, where guests can enjoy wine tastings and purchase wine by the bottle or glass.
