2026 Pumpkin Picking Season & Schedule
Our Burlington County pumpkin season typically runs from mid-September through early November. Because we are a working farm, our harvest conditions change slightly each year, but we keep our upcoming events page updated so you can perfectly time your visit around peak picking days and holiday weekends.
Whether you are a local resident driving over from nearby towns or across New Jersey, we recommend arriving early to enjoy the crisp morning air!

What is the Best Month to Go Pumpkin Picking in New Jersey?
For the widest selection and best picking conditions, plan your visit from late September through October, with mid- to late October usually offering the biggest, most mature pumpkins. If you’re after smaller decorative pumpkins or gourds, aim for late September to early October.
Pumpkin Patch Prices
At Johnson’s Locust Hall Farm, our pumpkins and autumn gourds are priced by weight at $0.95 per pound.
Our fields are loaded with diverse options from tiny, kid-friendly sugar pumpkins perfect for baking, to massive, statement-making giant pumpkins, and stackers too, for your front porch. We provide various carts and wagons in the field to assist with getting your finds back to the Hayride, and carts are also available when you return from the field to assist with getting those great finds back to your vehicle. If you are exploring our other pick-your-own crops, our farm staff is always available to assist if you need a hand with heavier hauls!

If you’re looking for a shorter farm visit, you can purchase an Animal Farm & Play Patch Only ticket for $4.75 per person. This option does not include the hayride, corn maze, or field activities.

How to Pick the Best Pumpkin
Finding the perfect pumpkin is a classic fall tradition. When you are out in the patch, keep these tips in mind to ensure your pumpkin lasts all the way through to our winter season:
- Check the Stem: Look for a hard, dark green or brown stem. A firm stem means the pumpkin is fully mature. Never carry a pumpkin by the stem, as it can snap and cause the pumpkin to rot faster!
- Do the “Tap Test”: Give the pumpkin a gentle thump with your knuckles. If it sounds hollow, it is ripe and ready to be carved into a jack-o’-lantern.
- Feel for Soft Spots: Roll the pumpkin over and check the bottom. The skin should be completely firm. If there are any mushy spots or discoloration, leave it in the field to naturally compost.
- Know Your Purpose: If you are baking pies, look for small, dense “sugar pumpkins.” If you are carving, look for a lighter pumpkin with a smooth, flat face.
Questions Families Have about Pumpkin Picking
What is the best month to go pumpkin picking?
For the absolute widest selection of sizes and shapes, we recommend visiting from late September through mid-October. If you are looking for corn mazes or baking pumpkins, visiting during our early fall harvest festivals in September to October is your best bet!
Do I need reservations to visit the pumpkin patch?
No, but, we highly recommend purchasing your Activities Wristband online in advance. Tickets can sell out quickly on peak October weekends and beautiful autumn days.
Are pets allowed on the farm?
Yes! Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to join your family for outdoor farm activities including joining you on specified Hayrides. However, for health and safety reasons, pets are not permitted inside the Farm Market or buildings.
Can we buy food and drinks at the farm?
Absolutely. While you are welcome to bring a water bottle, our Farm Market is fully stocked with fresh-baked pies, pumpkin bread, our famous apple cider donuts, and hot cider to warm you up after a day in the fields. On Festival weekends, our Farm House Grill will be open, offering Burgers, Fries, Pulled Pork, Chicken Tenders, Hot dogs and more. Visit our Cafe` and Creamery for Ice Cream, Slushies, Cold Brew and Hot drinks on those chilly fall days.
What happens if it rains?
Our farm is an outdoor agricultural venue, so conditions can get muddy! If severe weather closes the fields, we will post updates to our social media channels. If you have questions about your on-line ticket purchase , please first check your email for any email communication regarding our field status. Your ticket confirmation email has information on how you may change your ticket date. If in doubt, contact us directly (ext 202, or x203) before traveling to the farm.
